After Legalizing Cannabis in Canada

Cannabis was always one of the most sought out things in the entire planet. After the medicinal and health benefits of marijuana were proved, it was a pity that there was still a lot of struggle to legalize it in Canada. Several cannabis consumers fought to win the rights to use it without being restricted. After a considerable amount of hard work, cannabis finally became legal in Canada in 2018. The resulting uproar was tremendous. Canadian marijuana shop owners were dumbfounded by the crowds that were rushing in to buy weed online, and the demand soon outran the supply.

Cannabis Law in Different Provinces

Different provinces of Canada reacted to this legalization in different ways. In Alberta, the Alberta Gaming, Liquor, and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) did increase the number of authorized marijuana stores by licensing 14 new shop owners. Alberta became a significant contributor to the distribution of cannabis sales in Canada. In like manner, many of the other Canadian regions were flooded by people who were all waiting to buy their share of marijuana from the store.
With this increased demand that was almost impossible to contain, the cannabis shop owners faced great difficulty in stocking up their stores. The supply was not enough, and the demand only kept rocketing. Apparently, there was no exact solution for this, especially at the time of the excitement still reverberating everywhere.
Owners who sold over 26,000 Canadian dollars worth of marijuana on just the very first day of legalization, faced great losses when the government was unable to answer the demand that was in its full gear. The emergence of online weed shops was just one way of solving this crisis, but the lack of supply from authorities was still a problem that prevailed dominantly.

High Demand For Cannabis in Canada

The outburst of demand spread like wildfire throughout the entire country, causing several shops to shut down until the situation cooled off. The legalization of cannabis in Canada had been so abrupt and unexpected that no one had suspected it to create such a wave. Many MOM dispensaries were opened within a short period of time. For instance, AGLC spokeswoman Heather Holmen has interpreted this as an unexpected turn of events. Her reasoning explains how answering to all the cannabis requirements in all of Canada at once is not possible, at least not right away. Addressing the sudden demand was a national mission, which was why it was tough to get all the provinces to sell large stocks of cannabis integrally at the same time.
Interestingly, a 9-year-old Girl Guide who hung around a marijuana store was able to increase her sales tremendously in the fresh day of cannabis legalization. The lucky girl had nothing left of her entire 30 boxes of cookies in the end, and her sales went on for only 45 minutes. What strikes us as important here is that cannabis smokers were buying cookies while waiting, hungry and desperate; to buy the freshest weed in town before anyone else.

Online Shops For Cannabis

In spite of that, the emergence of online weed shops was starting to become a huge thing with the legalization. Online weed shops are always easier, with a vast array of choices and fewer costs. They would deliver your favorite cannabis products to your doorstep. Even though weed became legalized in Canada in 2018, this did not enable anyone and everyone to buy it like they would purchase snacks for a movie night. Buying and selling of cannabis in Canada were highly conservative from the very beginning, and it remains to be up until today.  Each province has its own restriction of age, and the minimum age to buy weed even in the most liberal of these provinces is eighteen. One must not possess more than 30 grams of cannabis at a time. If one sells to those who are still underage, the legal penalties will end up being quite painful and severe.

One of the major events that happened with the legalization of cannabis in Canada was that 500,000+ citizens of Canada who were accused and punished before 2018 were on the queue to be pardoned. Once cannabis became legal, imprisoning Canadians for doing something that is no longer illegal is an irrational move. After the legalization, medical and recreational cannabis users in Canada were definitely offered higher freedom. Regardless of the restrictions of age and dosage, legalizing cannabis was a strong move that allowed people to deal with their pain easier. In a more real sense, not considering age factors and dosage limitations can lead to dangerous risks. To avoid these, the government has still enforced some rules and regulations when it comes to purchasing weed. If you are a patient who needs special doses of cannabis for medical purposes, we always recommend you to come with the certification and advice of your doctor. However, the legalization of cannabis was a very thrilling experience to every single user of weed.
